Flyer Sizes Explained: A6, A5, A4, DL & When to Use Each

Flyer Sizes questions answered by the team that prints it every day. Platinum Digital Printing runs its own presses, embroidery machines and large-format printers in Randburg, Johannesburg — this guide shares what we tell our own clients, with no sales fog.

The A-Series Logic

Each A-size is half the one above: A4 (210x297mm) folds to A5 (148×210), halves to A6 (105×148). One artwork scales across all three cleanly.

This halving is why A-series printing is so economical — no paper waste.

A6: Handouts and Drops

Palm-size, cheapest per unit, perfect for street handouts and high-volume letterbox drops where cost per contact rules.

Unit prices drop sharply with volume because setup costs spread across the run. If your budget is tight, increasing quantity often costs less than you expect per unit.

A5: The Workhorse

The knock-and-drop and counter standard: enough space for a real message, still cheap at volume. If unsure, choose A5.

Double-sided A5 handles most promo briefs completely.

A4, DL and Folds

A4 suits menus, price lists and posters-in-hand. DL (99x210mm) fits envelopes and pockets — the fold formats (tri-fold, Z-fold) turn one A4 into six panels of story.
